Experiment Overview
Single-intervention N=1 testing HRV coherence training with HeartMath devices (20 min, 2x daily) for six months. Coherence increased from 46.3% → 55.3% (+19.4%), averaging 62.9% across all sessions with a peak of 83.5%. Positive affect rose 19 → 43 (+126.3%), and negative affect decreased 32 → 14 (-56.3%). Emotion regulation improved from 28 → 88 (+214.3%).
It's important to note that this was not truly a single-intervention experiment. The core HRV coherence practice enabled a cascade of downstream changes, including heightened awareness of state shifts that made it possible to apply other self-regulation tools at appropriate moments, and the ability to process and release emotional triggers more effectively.
